Barack Obama says:
Really Long Link (Part 1 of Wolf Blitzer's interview with what could be America's next president)
I say:
I found myself surprised at how easily I could digest the information Obama kept throwing my way. Listening to Bush speak makes me mad - so enraged do I get that I can barely stand to listen to him... I usually switch the channel or turn off the clip. Yet Obama's sweetness, eloquence and ideological orientation makes me want to keep listening - 20 minutes wasn't enough. No wonder some chick has created a video called 'I Got A Crush On Obama'... I don't quite fall into that category, but I can see how easy it would be to be infatuated with this person, stance on gay rights notwithstanding.
Only after Bush is gone will I really be able to comprehend the brutality of those eight years, the indignity, the destruction, the blows to postmodernist techniques, the dangerous black and white thinking, the draining sense of finality, the neglected senses of incredulity, the lack of questions that have filtered down into American and hence world societies.
Obama may not be perfect, but if he becomes President as I think he will, he will be able to lead people into a new era. Everytime I look at him I see the effects of widespread tolerance and celebration, due to the colour of his skin. And when I listen for long enough I realise intelligence of the sort that has been missing from the White House, idealism which is not often given the green light, and a flexibility which is intensely refreshing.
So I say: Go Obama!
