Messed Up - Messed Up

Messed Up - January 2010

umm "F.R.I.E.N.D.S"

January 29th 2010 22:30
With a month holidays going on, I am stuck at home nowhere to go or nothing to do. I don't have my license yet either. Ofcourse I don't miss the exams or pressure of deadlines & no sleep but what I miss the most is hanging out with friends (cutting classes) & catching on with what's the latest. You see what I have learned in my short 20 years of life is that the theory "Out of sight, out of mind" really works out as soon as people depart. I mean after high school, I haven't met anyone (except 1)for about 2 years. And since it is the hols, ofcourse some are travelling & others are well not within the neighbouring city to meet up. I know they say friends for life or something but when once you move apart as in get a job etcetera, you end up like total strangers except the fact you may name & next of kin! I wish there was some secret way in protecting this special bond till eternity.

PS: My definition of friendship is way different than that comedy where everyone ends up marrying each other!!
Moving on to Julie, she had a few friends over too & had to cook everything double the original JC's recipe.

What is the ideal

January 27th 2010 23:40
I was laughing at a particular “About me” I had come across & it was then that my sister suggested to write what I think the perfect so called “About me” is. So here it goes…
Often when opening a new account in facebook or orkut or twitter ot my space or even blogs in word press or orble, we come across this blank where we are suppose to write a few words about ourselves. For some people (specially those who open an account to find their soulmates) or their first time experience online, this is a big deal as they think this is the first & probably the last impression they can make (or this is the one & only opportunity). Honestly, I usually never read “About me” !!

I just love the novel I am reading right now. It is collection of storieshort with interesting & pretty intriguing plots with unexpected endings. It is Jeffrey Archer's "To cut a long story short". My personal favourite is " Death speaks ". I wish I could read more of such quite often. Some of the stories don't have an ending leaving it to the minds of reader's imagination.

I tried out American butter frosting & by far, among all the varieties of cream I have tried, this is
the best. My family recipe similar to it (which involves butter, sugar & lemon juice) but a bit different isn't bad either but both are way better than the foster clark or any bakery whip cream! I totally agree with the author of the blog from where I took this recipe that people always leave aside the topping from pastries or cakes but when one uses butter frosting, not a particle is left behind. I must confess that The inspiration in trying this out was from Julie's. I had tasted something of this sort way back in 2003 when I was visiting my home in Bangladesh & ever since began my quest to find something similar but in vain till today, no matter which bakery I tried, Nothing similar did I find. This particular one involves beating eggs & sugar till it doubles the original amount & heating it in double boiler till it reaches 160F & then cooling it after which chunks of butter are bare beaten into it till it is smooth creamy & silky

unsettling matter

January 23rd 2010 18:38
Today isn't going as expected. I woke up from this weird dream where I tried out my new cheesecake recipe like 5 times & it worked 100% during which the other members of my family was bathing & shampooing 10 of our kitties (oh dear!). Well after I woke, I had to finish ton of stuff so I could be finally free to whip up the ingredients for my cheese cake. It required a tablespoon of gelatin but I had no idea what every one means by hot water: does it indicate warm or boiling?I tried to add something in between but that was 5 hours ago & it still hasn't settled yet! I don't have a clue to how to proceed now.
Now getting back to Julie/Julia, Julie is done with of JC's soup, Poulet Poêlé avec Farce Duxelles, Gratin Dauphinois et Asperges au Naturel , Tournedos Sautés Aux Champignons Quartiers de Fonds d’Artichauts au Beurre – filet mignon with mushroom and Madeira sauce, and buttered, quartered artichoke hearts, Coquilles St. Jacques a la Parisienne etc.
I have never tasted or worked with mushroom so far. Add this to my next to do list!

Shopping today

January 22nd 2010 15:48
The last thing I would agree to do during my short stay in planet earth is shopping: be it books or bags or clothes or shoes or grocery unless they concern me. Today is one of those days where no one can manage to bring the stuff I specifically want & requires my ultimate presence. I am done with the list of things I need with the hope of finding them in whichever store I enter first.
Nothing new with Julie but I am desperately looking for a good recipes for these: julia child's Crème Plombieres au Chocolat & Crème Plombieres aux Fruits
anyone having do let me know

What will it be?

January 21st 2010 17:11
When I was still a freshmen, one of the most amazing events I fell in love with was the cultural village. Though most of the stalls put up for displaying cultures & traditions which I had assumed to be the same were arab nations, it pretty much amazed me. I was dazzled by the differences in food & clothing & accent in languages. Since we (me & most of my friends) represent a minority, we wanted to take the initiative of representing our culture too but it was so disorganized & unmotivated that we changed our minds. But we were left with an unsatisfied minds, hearts, & souls. Some of us were determined to try harder next year to make it work & here I am filling out forms & sending out letters requesting help from embassies without the faintest clue what will happen in a month's time. Will it be an event full of memories that I will cherish in my old age or will it be the regretful, disastrous & embarrassing episode of the year 2010?

Moving on to Julie: I totally agree with that though salads seem to be the easiest dish to whip up, there's an awful lot of niggeldy shit in it! The chopping seems to take forever & god forbid when there are too many people on the guest list. Julie had to miss her tv show "Buffy", a story related to girl, mom & vampires which probably was like the current "Gossip girl" I suppose..[ Click here to read more ]

Pets huzzah!!;)

January 20th 2010 16:36

Now that the holidays have started, I am trying out baking a few new recipes I had in mind. I always plan to try my hand in cooking but something in my gut tells me I should save the spark or excitement or magic in cooking for the future when I will have nothing save this to survive the boredoms of life. I tried out an Arabian sweet Basbousa from a recipe I found in the website provided by Nestle sweetened condensed milk. I loved the website though I haven't tried out anything yet. I am planning to try a new cold cheese cake recipe from here. Its a bit different from the one I use.

My friends newborn coming to this world probably next week..
Getting back to my task at hand: finishing Julie's blog in 128 days...i did fall back on that one

2009 back to haunt!!

January 3rd 2010 19:05
As 2009 is over leaving behind quite a memory such as:
transcending from freshmen to sophomore
at least being allowed to dream about ragging those freshmen freshly baked from high school

The best newyear's evening ever

January 1st 2010 21:39
It all began with the hilarious realization that one of Julia child's roast chicken stuffed with gizzard. The chicken has a gizzard as it is but no, we have to take out to marinate it & stuff it back in again!walla & there one has the chicken back!
I baked two chocolate cakes & though I have finals beginning on Sunday, I haven't studied a word. Instead I am enjoying watching something after the other & appreciating life. It is for days like this that I love my life & hate it the next day. Huh! And I thought new year is suppose to be about new year resolution & here I am the same old me.
Atleast I am enjoying myself..
